OUR STORY / FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS

It wasn't about
the mower.
It was about
the time.

One busy family. One $10,000 lawn tractor. A few secondhand robots. And a decision that changed the way I thought about our weekends.

Here's how it started

A NOTE FROM THE FOUNDER / DARIN VALLEY

When Ashley and I started our family, life got wonderfully busy. Between work, raising our girls, and everything that comes with owning a home, there simply weren't enough hours in the day.

Like a lot of homeowners, I took pride in our yard. I also had a John Deere X584 lawn tractor worth about $10,000. It did its job well. But as our family grew and work stayed demanding, I began questioning how much of my free time I really wanted to spend on it.

“Life is too busy to spend it mowing a yard.”

I didn't need a more impressive mower. I needed more time with my family.

01THE EXPERIMENT

I didn't start as a believer.

I was curious about robotic mowers, but skeptical. Could something so small really replace a full-size riding tractor? Would it actually work in a real yard?

Instead of making a big investment, I went looking for used machines on Facebook Marketplace. It was an affordable way to try the technology, learn what it could do, and find out for myself whether it was worth it.

02THE TURNING POINT

A few months later, the tractor was gone.

The robots weren't perfect, and there was a learning curve. But the more I used them, the more the value became obvious: our lawn was getting maintained without me planning my free time around mowing it.

Within months of buying my first robotic mower, I sold the John Deere X584. I put extra money back in my pocket—and began enjoying more time doing things that mattered for Ashley, our daughters, and our family.

03THE ENGINEERING CONNECTION

Then my engineer brain took over.

My professional life is rooted in industrial engineering, robotics, automation, and solving real operational problems. I've spent years figuring out how to make complex work simpler and more efficient.

At home, I discovered the same idea had a different kind of payoff. I wasn't trying to improve a productivity report. I was trying to free up a Saturday. I became fascinated by what robotic mowers could really handle, where they struggled, and how different technologies matched different properties.

04THE IOWA CONNECTION

Rooted in the river valleys I grew up around.

I'm originally from Northeast Iowa, where the Driftless Area's rolling hills, wooded bluffs, river valleys, and steep yards make property care anything but one-size-fits-all.

That landscape—and my own experience with the limitations of robotic mowers—made me realize how important it is to match the equipment to the property. Great technology is only great when it actually works where you need it.

Valley is our family name. It's also a nod to the region that shaped me. Putting the two together felt right.

WHAT CHANGED

Same lawn.
Different priorities.

There was nothing wrong with that tractor. The thing that changed was what I wanted my weekends to look like.

Now, as Ashley and I raise our two daughters, I appreciate every hour we can spend together instead of managing another chore.

We didn't stop caring about the lawn.
We found a better way to care for our time.
WHY VALLEY ROBOTIC SOLUTIONS EXISTS
